Lead by Engaging Your University Community!
Assessment and measurement are key competencies for all higher education administrators, particularly those
who manage information technology resources. The task is difficult: how does one accurately measure the quality
of technology services from the perspective of end users and not from the perspective of those who build and
maintain those services? In the eyes of faculty, students, and staff, what are the key indicators
that reflect high quality
technology services within a university community? The Higher Education TechQual+ Project provides technology
leaders with the tools to assess, analyze, and report on the effectiveness of technology services at their institution; while shielding them from the burden and rigors of conducting survey
research.
What is the TechQual+ Project?
How does the Higher Education TechQual+ Project do all these things? By approaching technology services
from the perspective of faculty, students, and staff. Through
focus groups at participating institutions, the project is working to
create a scientifically valid assessment instrument that reflects
the core of what end users expect from technology organizations.
The project is a nation-wide, three year effort with over three
dozen participating institutions ranging from doctoral - research
intensive institutions to community colleges. The project is led by
Dr. Timothy M. Chester, CIO at Pepperdine University.
The current version (PDF) of the Higher Education TechQual+ Assessment
is located here. In addition to this instrument, this web site delivers web-based
survey, communication, data analysis, and reporting tools designed to
effectively facilitate measurement and assessment by IT organizations. These tools are available free of charge to participating institutions.
